Frequently Asked Questions
So you Record and you Mix?
I do, I do. I love tracking. Fat drum sounds make me giddy. There’s nothing like capturing a band playing their heart out. Or guiding a vocal in from someone’s soul, through a microphone and making it sound the best it possibly can be so other humans can connect to it and enjoy it forever. It’s truly transcendent. If I know I’m also handling the mix, I’m able to make more creative choices with mic techniques and processing on the way in so we end up doing more “mixing to tape” from the get-go. I’m honored to have a hand in any process I play along the way. I’m here for you. We have a great tracking room at Cartoon Moon Recording although I can work wherever you’d like to. There are so many incredible studios in Nashville. I’m happy to talk to you about where would be best for your project.

What’s your Vibe as a Mixer?
Honestly, I haven't overthought it. Each song takes on its own style. Generally, though, I love low end, captivating vocals, and finding the right balance between warm and hi-fi. No ego, open to your sonic references – I'm here to serve your songs and help tell your story.
Do you play Music?
I can play instruments. Do I admit it to it? No. Not in this town, ha! However, I do understand music theory, have good pitch detection, a sense of rhythm and my own personal opinions on what moves me. I am an audio programmer and I compose music mainly using Ableton Live. When I’m not working I love making weird, experimental Bass and Dubstep music at home just for me. Together with Drummer/Producer Ken Coomer and Guitarist Joe Garcia, I am part of a Music Production group called Zu Music that creates content for various media. If you need music for anything, in any genre, please reach out, we got you.
Do you do Mastering?
I could and have…but I probably shouldn’t. There’s so many great mastering engineers around and I feel projects sound their best when a mixing and mastering engineer are both involved. I can help you by recommending who I feel would be best suited for your music. It’s great to have another set of ears in the final stage.
What’s your setup?
I work in a hybrid analog/digital environment. All of our Digital I/O passes through the transformers of an MCI JH-16 tape machine. I mix through a Neve Summing Buss with UAD plugins, an 1176 or two, API eqs and the right hemisphere of my brain (most of the time). PMC, Westlake, Auratone, Dangerous Monitoring. Avid S3 Controller.
Where is your Studio? Where will you mix my project?
I’m currently working out of Cartoon Moon Recording in East Nashville, TN. I also have access to a small project studio in Donelson and a mix room at my house in Madison. Budgets will vary for all of these locations. Please do not let money stand in the way of us working together. I want to make good music with good people.
Can you record remotely?
Yes, I believe a great record can be made anywhere. My friends and I have recorded in barns, sheds, garages, bedrooms and churches. Let me know what you’re thinking. We’ll make it happen.
What versions do I receive once the mix is completed?
